Manager Mode
Documents and Registrations
-
You have control
over the Media ID and Name displays on your Media Tree and Binder
Pane. Right-click in each pane and select preferences to set what
you see in each view.
-
If you’re
experiencing Media ID conflicts on registration, it means the
element you’re trying to register has the same Media ID as something
already in the database. You can type uncommon characters such as Z
or ! to group the conflicting elements together in the media tree
and figure out what they’re conflicting with.
-
It’s a good
practice to organize media groups by number, i.e. 4000 numbers are
PowerPoint files, 5000 numbers are deposition cuts, etc.
-
If you need to
add pages to a document, save the new pages into the folder with the
original pages. In TrialMax, right-click on the last page and
select “Insert After.”
-
If your
document images are named by Bates number, use the Registration
Options to set the filename as the Foreign Barcode.
-
If you want to
see your foreign barcodes in the Media Tree and Binders, make sure
to check the “Show Foreign Barcodes” box under Tools|Manager
Options.
Binders
-
Really play
around with the binders to get used to how they work. The binder
functionality is possibly the most powerful and useful feature of
TrialMax. You can put binders inside of other binders just like
Windows folders and organize your case data like never before.
Unlike Windows folders, the binder tree allows you to drag and drop
items in any order you’d like.
-
Remember that if
you delete something from a binder it’s not permanently deleted. To
completely delete an element of your database, delete from the Media
Tree.
-
If you want to
copy a binder and it’s contents into another binder, hold <ctrl>
while you drag it to it’s new location.
-
If you
register a folder of documents that has a complex sub-structure
(i.e. PX and DX, expert reports, medical records, etc) into a
binder, TrialMax will create the same structure in the Binder tree.
-
You can put
scripts into binders and configure the Binder Pane next to the Media
Tree in order to work completely in tree view and avoid the
thumbnails in the Script Builder Pane.
Script Import
-
Script Import
files can have more than video, any valid barcode number will show
up in your script.
-
If there are
typos or other errors in your script import text document, TrialMax
will report them back to you by row number with a description of the
error. The fasted way to identify the row number is to open the
file in Excel to check the row number from the left-hand side of the
program. This eliminates the need to count the rows in notepad.
-
Remember that you
can’t drag script imports in from the source pane. The way to import
a script from a text file is to right click on the Scripts folder in
the Media Tree and select Import|Script(s) from file.
-
You can import a
script or batch of scripts directly into a binder.
Video
-
If you have video
on different drives or different folders on a drive, you can point
to each deposition by using the “relative path” field on the
properties pane for the entry on the Depositions folder from the
Media Tree.
-
You can look at the “Duration”
field in the properties pane to get a quick run-time of a script.
-
When linking
documents to video you can drag and drop the document or treatment
into the barcode field at the bottom of the Tuner Pane.
-
The “Play”,
“Play Through” and “Play All” buttons at the top of the tuner pane
are useful to preview your script in Manager Mode as they will
appear in Presentation. Never use the play icon next to the other
tuning controls as it changes your start or end point.
-
Pay particular
attention to the required naming convention on Script Imports, if
you don’t name your import files correctly, they won’t create
scripts the way you want them to. It’s a simple concept and
necessary to correctly import several in a batch, everything before
the first space is the Media ID and everything after the first space
is the Name.
-
There are
several different “Find” options when searching a deposition. You
can search as narrowly as in a single script or as broadly as all
transcripts in the case.
-
You can run
the “sort designations” and “renumber barcodes” operations on more
than one script at a time, just select multiple scripts and
right-click for the menu.
-
To
globally change the type of designation highlighter on a script, the
fastest way to do this is the right click the script, export it to a
barcode text file, change the highlighter number on the text file,
and re-import the script.
Miscellaneous
-
A trick to
turn a transcript into a document, is to right click the deposition
on the Media Tree, create a transcript report, and print to PDF.
You can then register that PDF into TrialMax as images for
impeachment.
-
If you’re
working on a dual-monitor system in manager mode, you can configure
the screen layout to have panes on the secondary monitor. If you
load this layout in single monitor mode, it will put the panes back
onto the primary screen.
Presentation Mode
-
Typing <ctrl>
s in Presentation Mode will display your current barcode number
discreetly in the lower left-hand corner.
-
<ctrl> \ will
horizontally split the screen and bring the top of the next page up
on the bottom half of the screen.
- Once in a
Media ID in Presentation Mode, you can skip through pages by just
typing the number and <Enter> i.e. if you are on 15.6, you can jump
to page 12 by typing 12<Enter> instead of x15.12<Enter>
